It was working before. No change had been done to the wiring, plus
Gecko LED is ON.

The shaft is "locked" when driver powered on.

Can't get access to the x- step/dirn. wires. However, connected
controller to another driver. All axes working. Looks like that
leaves the x-step/dirn signal wires inside the bad driver? Is there
any way I can test that without opening up the driver?

Is it safe to connect a multimeter to the phase A/phase B of the
motor cables, set to measure current/voltage. If it is what would I
expect to read?
