Re: testing with multi-meter - GECKO

Hi Andrew,

if you have a line on the pin 7 shut-down, pull it off and re-test.

Pull the motor wires off the Gecko and test all leads for
resistance. lead to lead and each lead to ground. stranded wires
can break from flexing. With the motor connected, it is easy to test
each wire and that will show any sorts between wires or even in the
motor. if you can, flex the wires as under normal operation. it is
possible there is a problem only at a certain flex.

verify your 5 volt signal. If it is not from the PC, verify a common
ground so the Gecko really sees the 5Volts.
verify your step and direction in software and test the wires for
proper signals at the Gecko.

reconnect and with power on, send a signal to drive the motor one
direction so it will run some seconds. monitor the power supply
voltage. a properly sized power supply should not see a drop in
voltage.

Finally, ohm each wire, motor leads, switches, step and direction and
make sure there is no problem. THEN replace with a known good unit.

Dave
