OK, sounds reasonable. Z direction you will find to be a bit more
tricky, I think.

Actually, you could do the job with a miter saw, it's just that all
your blocks (while laid side by side) will be as big as the miter saw
can cut.

I'd suggest a production stop for the saw so that everything comes out
the same size. It'll make life easier for you.
