the PC.
Assuming you have checked everything before your first power on and
triple checked after your first failure, either you have a transient
problem of some more serious one. opto's are not a guarantee of
total isolation, but will offer simple isolation.
if you are using hte PC's power supply for the driver make sure that
you are not getting problems on that side of things. It may be a
power problem and not a parallel port problem
