Hi,
I've been away for a few days and so wasn't around when this advertising
spark developed into a full blown fire. For my part, living in England and
thus beyond the area where it would be economic to ship any 'bargain item'
from the US as a 'spec' buy, I am, nevertheless, interested in posts such as
that about the large steppers. Not only does it give an indication of what I
might expect to pay for such a lump over here (double the price there and
add a bit!), but the technical specs are interesting in giving a clue as to
what 'junk' motors might be. One thought which has been in my mind for a
while is that it would be useful to actually collect data such as that
presented into some kind of index on a web site so as to form a central
database of motor specs, many of which are probably now obsolete and so hard
to find specs for. It could also then be used as a basis for comparison on
unnamed motors - say, by looking at overall size and coil resistance and
comparing this with similar other motors, you may be able to get a good idea
of current rating and power.
I must admit that I get a little peeved by the posts of some list members
who, whenever a particular subject is mentioned, instantly pop up with an 'I
sell that for only $2000' reply. This seems to apply more to software than
hardware and, since it comes to my mailbox at an online cost to me and is
the kind of junk mail which I class as 'I will never use this product unless
I chance across a pirated version', I find the constant repetition a little
annoying.
Anything which adds to the collective knowledge base in terms of tecnical
info or practical tips is fine by me.
Ian
p.s. Why don't I ever see any such ads for stuff in the UK, surely I'm not
the only interested Brit on the list?
