Floppy would be somewhat difficult, but it's a plugin, as is the
(missing) CDrom drive.

However, the hard drive has already been swapped out, so that's not an
issue. If you can stick with a 2 gig hard drive or below, a laptop
can make a very nice CNC computer. With a display and integral
keyboard, you really do have the possibility of a good setup. Add in
the built-in UPS (the battery) and you have a nice setup.

I found a cdrom external drive that runs on a pc card, so I had a way
to get the win98 system installed.
