It's decent enough. I'd add a few other features. LEDs to monitor
the steps, I'd put a "warm fuzzy" feature in. A bipolar LED between
the motor leads, so we can see what the state of the driver is, power
leds to see what the state of the power supplies happens to be.

I'd also bring out the home lines from the chip, and let the control
lines to the 297 be broken out so that the chips can be set to the
proper mode. I'd also put in the possibility of RC filters in the
comparator input lines to the 297 because the presence of noise on
these lines can cause the comparator latches to trigger at an audible
rate. You may not need them, but it can be a good idea.

What I'd do just to start.


Best thing is to look at the application notes (ST microdevices) and
see what they do.
