In the description on his web page he says "I used Simpsons Strong
Tie angles to hold the bearings in alignment." I didn't get it at
first but I stared at the closeup of the bearing mounts for a while
and then realized what they were.
I think they're the preformed metal brackets used in construction
wood framing. Home Depot has lots of different types. Probably the
most common ones are the joist hanger type but I've seen the 90
degree angle ones too.
