Bob:

I don't know of any specific group for that project in HSM but the
author hangs around this one from time to time. Just about anything
you need to know about building your own CNC machine can be gleened
from this list. There are lots of experienced builders here and many
have built their own machines from scratch. Several have even built
plasma cutters. If you want advice about mechanical, electrical,
electronic, software, etc then you will get plenty here. Just keep
it on topic for hobby CNC.

Another less formal group is the Master5 group and it's new sister
group MACH1MACH2CNC. It is primarily to discuss and support a
Windows based controller software package, but there are specific
discussions about plasma cutting and a low cost Torch Height Control
(THC) that may interest you as well.
