I am in the process of doing a CNC Retrofit on my Taig. I'm using Pacific
Scientific motors and they recommend 16ga shielded wire. I did find some
at a local electronics supply. It is rubber covered so it is very
flexible. The big problem is going to be splitting the wires to fit the
socket on the motor. Not impossible, but a lot of soldering and heat
shrink to get a finished job. Seems that the wire was about $1.75 a ft.

While I was looking at different distributors, I came on the idea of using
speaker wire. You can get a four wire flat configuration speaker wire in
heavy gage that isn't too expensive and it has the flexibility of a piece
of over cooked spaghetti. The four wide wire was kind of like a ribbon
cable on steroids. What steered me away was the shielding issue. I could
have bought braid and covered the wire, but the finished product was going
to be around $5.00 a ft, mainly due to the cost of the braid. If you don't
want or need the shielding, it would be an inexpensive way to go. I
wouldn't go to an audio store, but to an electronic supply store for a
better price.
