the problem with the rh5.2 release was not kernel related(the kernel gets
replaced anyway)but seem to be a result of redhats "customizing"(read that
as "screwing up") the Linux file system standards
also the NIST RCS libraries that are included with the EMC-2.0.36 source
were
compiled for the redhat5.2 distro so to install EMC on any other 2.0.36
distro
you had to download and build the RCS code for your own system
fortunately the "redhat bug" has been fixed with the EMC-2.2.13 release and
I was able to install it on my Slackware-7 box with no errors (I had already
patched together a port of the 2.0.36 version from Dec_2000 on this machine)
while I haven't made any chips with it just yet it IS turning the steppers I
have hooked up (after working out that Freqmod PERIOD timing, thanks for the
tips on that guys!)
the Linux-Mandrake distro is basically a slightly upgraded version of redhat
and shouldn't give you any problems with EMC once the standard kernel+RTL
is installed
