Hi Penn,
Rutex makes excellent quality servo motor drives using Step and
direction signals. I've been using their drives for about a year now
and are very happy with them. I think Rutex has a lot of experience
with plasma and oxy CNC cutting.
Stepex appears to be Rutex's proprietary multi axis motion control chip
that interfaces to a PC.
You might also check out the PIGINFO group on Yahoo. (PlasmaCAM
Information Group) There are a lot of very experienced plasmacam users
that share their experiences (and opinions) freely. This group can help
you with the CNC part of rolling your own.
