The key words here
-> inexpensive
-> slot mounted
-> 4 axis

all this points to a parallel printer port card that would connect to
an external Stepper driver. Not a stepper driver card.

Since the PC power supply is limited to 5 or 12 volts and the main PC
bus connection would have to handle the total amperage for 4
motors ? I don't think that is going to happen for any decent sized
motors.


When you run across the page again, let us know. I'm thinking Dave
K's connecting to mosfets to run a stepper might be what you were
seeing. not a very sophisticated driver but very innexpensive.
