I know that replacing the screws and nuts with ballscrews and ballnuts
(2 on each screw for zero backlash) is a lot of work. I/we've done this
to several machines. However, the result is far, far superior to using
an acme screw.
If you plan on keeping this machine for a while, I'd replace the
screws. As an added bonus, you can run smaller motors because screws
take a lot less power or you can run the same motors but run them
faster.
