At least the mini-mill I got had no bearings in the Y axis leadscrew
bracket. A very slight step on the leadscrew and the handwheel
were the "thrust bearings" that rode against the bracket. A terrible
design, and hard to understand, as there were 2 opposed ball bearings
in the X bracket! So, I did some carving of the Y bracket to accomodate
2 small ball bearings in a manner very similar to how the X one was made.
I also faced the outer portion of the handwheel so that it would only press
against the inner race of the ball bearing.
