Thanks everyone for the info!

Looks like I'll be using it as-is :-)

Maybe if my router/mill works well enough when I finish the upgrade, I
can drill more rods
and make supports for them. Such as the Thompson rails. I know they
won't equal them.

Like my wife and I were discussing the other day, "It looks like a good
<whatever>." Yeah,
it /looks/ like a good <whatever>, but it isn't one.

I really do appreciate all the time everyone put into their replies.
I'll file them away
for future reference.
