Water hardening steel needs about 1300 degrees or cherry red. You can't get
that with a propane torch. Water hardening steel will warp terribly maybe a
couple inches in 6 ft. I would buy ground Thompson shafting or equivalent.
Those Thompson bearings will most likely press groves into soft tool steel
very quickly.
