one way, but here's ANOTHER answer from an old [deleted] who has used LOTSA
Thomson stuff: Their "Class L" is case-hardened to RC-60 (that's like a new
file), and PRECISION centerless-ground to some precision measured in "tenths".
It is STRAIGHT within, what, 0.001" per foot, or something like that. There
is NO WAY without oversize rod, straightening-equipment, and
centerless-grinding equipment that you will APPROACH the required precision for proper function
with linear ball-bearings. Just bite the bullet and PAY those OUTRAGEOUS
prices Thomson charges, and be DONE with it!
I have found that paying for the GOOD stuff will COST you less in the end, if
you hope or expect a piece to last until the following Monday!
