There is an overpriced firm in NJ, think it is, name of W.M. Berg, Inc. They
make several sizes and kinds of "cable chain", made with tiny steel cable
overmolded with polyurethane, forming "links". They make a large array of
"standard catalog tooth-count and bores" sprockets for each type of this
cable-enforced stuff, and will do custom-tooth-count (for the price of a new car) for at
least SOME sizes, if not all. It IS super-precision stuff.

I have wondered why I see no mention of this stuff for these X-Y systems in
here for which rack/pinion is discussed. It runs VERY smooth due to the
polyur. contact with the metal sprockets. The latest catalog I got from them is
their B2000. Google 'em! Jan Rowland
