Doesn't every manufacturer have nowadays a version which accepts
step&dir control.
I've used Mitsubishi's servos and drives as a package.(MR-C or MR-J
series)
http://www.mitsubishi-automation.de/products.html
Everything works fine if you can deal with the noise due to drives.
