My definition of a Mill
First Vertical and Horizontal Mill
Second Have a table in the X and Y axis
Third have a way of positioning the work/spindle in the Z axis.
Fourth the vertical mill is more like a drill press, but can have a knee.
Fifth the Horizontal Mill mounts the cutter on an Arbor supported
at both ends and uses the knee to move the table up and down.
When I think of a Router/Cutting Table
First I think of a large horizontal area that maybe fixed or moveable.
Second I think of a Gantry like support for the Y and z axis.
Third, I think of a router as doing 3 dimensional work in softer
materials, Wood/plastic. and needing a larger Z axis.
(on this note, i keep thinking of a whopper that could
carve full size Auto body parts in foam. Like drive a
Ferrari under it and measure it and then carve a duplicate
in foam. Not looking for .001 accuracy. The Z axis
ls the real problem of my dream. I have a ridgid rack
and pinion with a 5 foot length, The 20' X and 8' Y
are no problem. To make the Gantry stiff enough is
a problem. Actually the heavier it is, the more accurate
it can be)

Fourth I think of a router as doing cutting in metal so needing
only a limited z axis

In planning a new website for general access, showing and detailing
the ongoing progress of our DIY router / mill - I wonder if I could
ask any members of this group to advise me, as to what defines a
Router as opposed to Mill ? or in fact vice versa ?
