Whynot! You need a 2:1 "line-transformer" specifically made for dropping 230
VAC to 115 VAC. These are available all over Europe with "U.S. outlets"
mounted right ON the transformer case!
If you MUST "build your own", look for a 2:1 transformer rated at 1 or 2 KVA,
min. 5 amp.
