Some time ago I bought two DRO boxes made by Heidenhain thinking I could
link up USDigital strips to them. I contacted Heidenhain for guidance only
to find I have wasted my money and the scales I wanted to use will blow up
the boxes.

Below is their reply to my question:

There were 2 different connectors used with that model readout, a 6 pin
(standard) and a 9 pin (optional).

1 - GREEN - 0 DEGREES+
2 - YELLOW - 0 DEGREES -
3 - BLUE 90 - DEGREES +
4 - PINK 90 - DEGREES -
5 - BROWN + 5 VOLTS DC
6 - WHITE - 0 V0LTS SUPPLY GROUND
BODY - SHIELD - EARTH GROUND

1 - GREEN - 0 DEGREES +
2 - YELLOW - 0 DEGREES -
3 - BROWN +5 VOLTS DC
4 - WHITE - 0 VOLTS SUPPLY GROUND
5 - BLUE - 90 DEGREES +
6 - RED - 90 DEGREES -
7 - GREY - REFERENCE PULSE +
8 - PINK - REFERENCE PULSE -
BODY - SHIELD EARTH GROUND

This is readout was designed to work with scales that have a 40 uM grating
pitch (LS 500, LS501, LS 503, LS 803). These scale have been discontinued.
Some of those version readout could be modified to work with scales that
have a 20 uM grating pitch (LS 700, LS 701, LS 703, LS704, LS303, LS 403).
We would need to see the readout to see if it could be modified.

Note:The Heidenhain scaling that will work with that readout provides an 11
micro amp peak to peak sine wave signal. Scaling that provides TTL, HTL or 1
volt peak to peak sine wave signals will damage the readout.
