Thanks for your answers .
I found another transformer that gave me 50 volts instead of the 38
volts and it has made a noticeable difference in the speed and
acceleration of the mill .
Oh yes , the higher voltage did not make any difference in the motor
temperature and I'm still running the Geckos wide open ( no current set
resistor )
PS. I'm a little worried about trying the 70 volt transformer it is
awfully close to the 80 volt self destruct point .
