voltage the meter sees. and is usually a fairly "large" value.
For measuring current a resistor "shunt" is placed in parallel with the
meter, and is usually a very small value. Sometimes in the shape of a flat piece
of metal, or heavy wire. Trim away metal from the sides until the meter is
calibrated
