You need some sort of interface. There is the Dan Mauch/Tom Kulaga
DRO board that plugs into an ISA slot. Or, my universal stepper controller,
which also can be a step pulse generator and auxilliary I/O unit.

Well, maybe. You can set axis coordinates, it is possible to set the
lathe X
for diameter or radius, but not so easy to swich between the two. it can
have tool offsets and work offsets.
