Yeah.

How much of a difference the wire size is going to make depends on how long
the wires are.

Though 22ga. x 2 does sound a little on the light side to me...

Somewhere I have a chart that gives resistance of various sizes of wire --
it's likely that such a thing exists out there on the net as well. Might be
handy to make these decisions with.
