Nathan,
I don't know the status of AHHA but that is what I
retrofitted my B'port BTCII, Boss 7.9 with. I too kept
the steppers and after all the hassle of the tool
changer it was well worth it. I now have a nice mill
with a 24 station tool changer that works like a
champ. AHHA seemed slow to deal with but it works. I
can add a 4th axis later. Also I kept the 24VDC B'port
power supply,110VAC power supply as well as the
pneumatic manifold system for gear shift change and
tool changer. I did replace the old ice cube relays
with solid state(OPTO 22) relays. I have never added
it all up but I guess I have just under $5,000.00 in
the control setup. I bought a old 90 mhz pentiumII
computer from the local Salvation Army Thrift Store
and put a new hard drive in it. The AHHA control with
pendant was $4436.00. It was a good experience for me
and I learned a lot. Further as I have problems later
I will be more able to fix them myself. I have the
mill running nearly everyday and with the tool changer
I can be off doing other work and not have to attend
to the machine.I also removed the old dc spindle set
up for a more modern ac inverter set up. That is not
included in the $5,000.00 price. The jury is still out
on the spindle however. The ac setup does not have the
torque and I still have the dc motor.I may wind up
going back to dc.
