It's really not all that different from EMC running steppermod or freqmod,
outputs pulses (to 45khz) based on desired velocity as determined by the
G-code interpreter (Art basically started with the NIST interpreter and fixed
a few (lot) of the issues)

Where mach2 is different is in ease of install/config/modification/scripting/
custom M codes/accesability and customization of the UI.

As you know I'm a big fan of EMC, though at this moment, I only have one machine
running it here, and we're debating...

While some may question the stability of using a MS OS, or tout the alleged stability
of Linux, my router controller never gets shut down and has been rock stable for over
a year.
