You may need a buffer chip as well. I use a 74ACT541 chip for this.
The new mother boards run on 3.6v and not 5v so they may not drive the optos
reliably. The buffer will take the 3.6 and output a good 5v signal.
Try it first but if you start missing steps this may be the solution.
An alternative to getting power from the PC is to buy a 9v or 12v wall
wart add a 7805 3 pin regulator . Wire the ground to the PC parallel port
ground and use that 5v.
They also make them that have the 5v regulator built in.
