About a mile from me (Santa Clara, Ca) there is a place that sells
scraps in small quantities. I have only been there once, but it was
an experience. Tons and Tons of aluminum in all shapes and sizes. I
do not know if the price was good or bad as this was the first time I
purchased any but I got 7.5 pounds of cutoff pieces for US$25. Most
of it was 6061, but I also got a couple of pieces of softer stuff.
They had cutoff pieces stacked to the ceiling in the center of the
room and 20' by all shapes and sizes along the outside walls. They
even had what looked like 1 foot cubes of aluminum. I just walked
around (the men working the machines did not seem to care), grabbed
what looked good to me, piled it on the scale, and then a guy came
up, looked at the weight, I followed him into the office and paid
cash.

If you are in a city, do a web search on aluminum with your area
code, or zip code, or city name.

Those that know more, let me know too what the going price per pound
is. I think I could have dickered with him. -Chuck-
