I was planning to drive with a HTD belts at 640 - 800 rpm on their pulleys.
The pulleys have quite a small diameter, so they produce a linear velocity
of around 25 m/m - which, I'm realiably told, is what a lot of industrial
machine aim to rapid transverse at. The smaller pulley diameter also means
more torque for better acceloration.

The servos have 512 line counter per full rotation and a 5.9 to 1 gear box
on their output. 800 rpm is their no load speed, and while a gantry
shouldn't impose much frictional resistance, I would expect their actual
speed to be more like 640, placing a 40 oz/in toque load.

At 640 rpm is 10.67rps. But that's going through a gearbox, so the actual
motors spindle will be turning at, 62.95rps. At 512 line counter per
revolution, that's 32,230 cps. Just for fun, 800 / 60 = 13.33 rps. 13.33 *
5.9 = 78.66 rps. 78.67 * 512 = 40,279 cps.

So I should be okay without a multiplier I guess. If my cps has come out at
something like 50 kcps, would it just mean that when the gantry made a rapid
transverse, it would stop short of where it should, because the amplifier
would be collecting more pulses than it could realiably count? Is this
counting limit something to do with the amplifier's aliasing limit, or is it
a straight up dead stop limit?

Kind regards,
John
