It's quite simple actually, Its just a cube with three circular pockets on each face. The layout would be: Draw a square with a circle inside, then draw another square inside the circle that just protrodes the perimiter of the diameter. repeat the process for the last pocket. Then the dimensions of the two squares inside the outside square will dictate the depth of the three pockets. One G-code for one face is all that is required just flip it 5 times with the same program. Drill a hole on center in three faces thru for end mill entry.
As for the 7 nested ivory spheres all less than 1" in dia. carved from ivory that I once examined, I have no idea. that was impressive!

Hello Rick,

if it is unzipped to the several files.
Here is what I have in the 3cubes.zip file.
3cubes.txt explains how to use the gcode program.
3cubes04.jpg is a photo for step 4.
3cubes09.jpg is a photo for step 9.
3cubes10.jpg is a photo for step 10.
3cubes11.jpg is a photo for step 11.
3cubes.cnc is gcode for TurboCnc 3.1a.
3cubes.cpp is a Borland c program to generate the gcode file.
The remaining 3cubes.* files are generated by the Borland C++ compiler
but are not needed.
I have not used 3cubes.cpp and 3cubes.cnc for a year or so. I made
3cubes.txt and *.jpg very recently. Let me know if there is a problem
or if anything does not make sense.
Alan has included this on the Sherline CNC list
(SherlineCNC@yahoogroups.com). Discussion of this subject will probably
continue there since I used a Sherline CNC machine to make the nested
cubes. I'll probably explain how the calculations are done so that folks
can create there own versions of the nested cubes.
