Hi Andy & all:
Do you really need the 5 th axies cnc controled or could you
just tilt the head on an angle so you can reach in between the vanes
with the end of the ball noses cutter. You might be able to do it
with only a 3 axies machine but it would really be something to
program and machine as you would be always doing what we in the
machining trade call rise and fall machining not water line type
which is much easier.
Another way to get the contour would be to make a single blade
model of a larger scale and then trace it with a probe. This is
one reason I asked about a probe and how it works to generate code
earlier. Does any one know how the control gets the feed back when
the probe is a zero position? What type of signal do the probes
output? Does anyone know? I have a friend who has a machine that
the makers said it was capable of using a probe and I need to find
out more about using one.

Thanks Ken.
What about the quality of the base machine Rong Fu vs the clones?
Suggestions please for CNC that can do the tilt head - 5th axis? As well
Do RF 45s come with 2HP? Is retrofit possilbe with 2HP ?
Best wishes, Andy

I am trying to decide between the RongFu RF45 and RF31 with CNC.
Could anyone guide me on this?
Some of the issues are:
1. Good CNC matched systems - Servos controllers boards and software. I
know that Microkinetics makes one for the RF 31.
2. RF45 has 1HP rather than the 2HP of the RF 31. However it has
dovetails, a gearhead and a tilting head. Is the 1HP too low for such a
machine? For steel ? Is CNC control available for the tilting head (5th
axis?)?
Thanks.
Andy
Andy,
It is much easier to CNC an RF45 take a look at
www.industrialhobbies.com . You are likely looking at the Grizzley model
at 1hp there are many others selling 1.5 hp models. Do not buy an
actual RongFu purchase a Chinese clone instead. You will be stripping
most of differences out with a CNC conversion.
I paid 1395.00 for an RF45 clone including shipping in October!
