The standard thread mills cut only one thread pitch, and are quite expensive
($100 and up, EACH). But, there are single-row thread mills whch will
do a wide range of thread pitches. If you need totally oddball thread
sizes for which taps and dies are not available, or you don't want to spend
money on special-size taps and dies, then the single-row threadmill is
great! I got one in 1/4" diameter for about $25, and it will do any size
above about 3/8" ID. It is a lot slower that threading on the lathe, but
there are things you just CAN'T put in the lathe, or get properly aligned.
It makes BEAUTIFUL threads, even in difficult materials, far better than
you might get single-point threading on the lathe.
