While I'm not yet ready to attempt this, I have always been faschinated by
the concept of machining a thread -- if nothing else, for the geek factor.
I'm enjoying following this thread. (pun intended)
I'm curious to know if anyone here has done thread milling using Dolphin
Partmaster to generate the code?

expensive
($100 and up, EACH). But, there are single-row thread mills whch will
do a wide range of thread pitches. If you need totally oddball thread
sizes for which taps and dies are not available, or you don't want to spend
money on special-size taps and dies, then the single-row threadmill is
great! I got one in 1/4" diameter for about $25, and it will do any size
above about 3/8" ID. It is a lot slower that threading on the lathe, but
there are things you just CAN'T put in the lathe, or get properly aligned.
It makes BEAUTIFUL threads, even in difficult materials, far better than
you might get single-point threading on the lathe.
