If someone wants a CNC punch with pretty serious capabilities, some of
the Wiedemann RA41P turret punches that originally used a stylus and
template are often available in the used market for ~$1500 with
tooling. The material carrier is already there and just needs screws
and motors to move it in place of hand power. The turret has about 20
stations, with a 20" throat depth. The mechanicals of the machine are
simple and reliable, and since the clutch was originally electrically
actuated via the stylus, all the mechanism for punch actuation is
already in place.
