Wally, I drive the Z on my Bridgeport and wouldnt have it any other way. There is no backlash due to the weight of the knee and table using the present gears and acme screw. I'm using a 40lb-in servo with 2.5:1 reduction on a Gecko 320. 14" of Z and the spindle is still available for quickie manual things. zero'ing out the Z is easy just roll spindle out and touch, lock spindle then zero Z in the software, it's that easy. Rapids of 50 ipm on Z.

a bridgport for the Z axis...What was never mentioned in these posts
is how they have gotten rid of the backlash from the bevel gear drive
(assuming it was used???)...Or if a whole new drive scheme was
invented...
Inquiring minds want to know!!!
