Hi Scott,

I think you might be a little confused. A DC motor runs on DC, like the
power supply you've mentioned.

This variable supply is not needed or necessarily wanted to drive
steppers. You need the DC still, but a DRIVER is needed to alternately
switch the power the coils in the stepper. Check out "Jones on Steppers".
