capacity (which it sounds like it does), then yes, it should work.

If it is variac based it may not be isolated from the line. This can be
dangerous if your wiring is not set up properly, or if something fails.
In my experience with variac usage its not a problem as long as you are
careful. YMMV.

FWIW, I use my variac all the time for powering various things, and it
doesn't even have a case, its got bare wires all over. It even looks
dangerous. Perhaps thats why I've never been bitten by it, its a
constant reminder that its got dangerous potential (heh).
