Wally, The Bridgeport I use originally had steppers. It was pathetically slow and unreliable with the original AB drives. Some are using the new micrstepping drives with the old steppers and getting better results. If I had a choice, it would definitely be servos. Mine runs reliably at 120 ipm and would go faster if it had a higher voltage power supply. Usually run it at 100 ipm and that is fast enough. A stepper for driving the knee is inadequate. It requires gas springs, counterweights etc. I get rapids of 60 ipm on the knee with no assistance at all. And the system never loses steps. I changed over to servos and it was like night and day difference.
