I have been using one similar to the one found at
http://www.metalwebnews.com/howto/ph-conv/ph-conv.html
in figure7 near the bottom , sense "88" all day every day running as
many as 3 machines at a time ( total 5hp) , never a single problem .
All you really need is the cap between T1 and T3 but you have to find
the right size cap too small and it won't start with out some help (
spin it with your foot) too much and it will hum like crazy , but in
between it will hum gently for years !!
I'm only using a 2 hp motor but it is one of the old LARGE frame type .
Got it for $2.00 in a yard sale because it was froze solid .
