old denford pnc2c controller

hi all have bought an old 1982 denford easiturn lathe
with what is called a PNC2C controler, poss state of the art in the
early eighties got it home and may be due to the 100 mile trip, has
decided not to goo, as per the instructions, when press the zero, the
x axe crashes into the end, has any one out there have any knowledge
to help me sort this out, short term untill i decide on putting in a
new system , and where should i go with that one? many thanks
