Hi Mike:
I sure hope you're not planning to drive the ballscrew through an
extension shaft that's been glued in place.
That's a terrible idea...you'll never know when the darned thing will bust
loose and destroy things.
I realize that it may SEEM easier to do it this way, but I really doubt it.
Turning a ballscrew end is not that big a deal...you just need patience and
commonsense.
By far the hardest part is dialling it in accurately enough...making an
extension shaft doesn't relieve you of this requirement.
If by chance, you overshoot and turn the shaft end too small, it's a far
better option to simply sleeve the undersize journal than to add an
extension.
I realize that the MEW author claims his method to have been successful, but
I still don't like it...it's inherently weak and no less effort to do
accurately.
