A much smaller servo motor can be used if you use the reduction. For
instance,
a 4:1 reduction will increase torque to the leadscrew by a factor of 4.
I am
using motors good for about 250 Oz-In peak with a 2.5:1 belt reduction.
Some people who really want to show off how fast their machine can move
insist you need LOTS more torque. But, I find this system is strong
enough to
snap 3/8" end mills off in the collet without faulting the servo, and
can do 120
IPM with no problem. That is WAY more than I need, and any more would
just be
a hazard.

I'll go with geckos and turbocnc. I would appreciate help from anyone who has alread done that as this would be my first experience with servo motors and drives.
