If you can bypass the spindle drive and get the rest of the machine
running, you might be able to make do with a standard VFD. But, that's
the problem with these highly proprietary protocol-based machines, if
anything stops working, it may be impossible for the end user to get around
it.

Looks like high-end stuff, probably expensive. but, I have no experience
with Elmo.
