I think youre right , I just found that the Y and X axis were both real tight and some binding..Relieving a bit of that pressure helped immensely...But I am inclined to think that both axis were 'free' enough that the servo motors and the drivers should have handled the load.... I will put another fan on the servo drives..As for overvoltage on breaking , I dont know how to cheack on that one..?

Is it possible the amp(s) are shutting down due to thermal issues ie Over temp or over voltage on breaking ?
