as long as the topic arises, i have a question on the
actual performance of a microstepping controller vs
not.

let's say the native resolution of a stepper is 200
steps/rev. the error would be +- 1/2 step. so i can
see half steps being somewhat realistic. but as one
attempts to position a rotor between those teeth based
on analog voltage of the coils, i have doubts as to
how accurate those can turn out to be on different
motors under different loads. in fact, it seems
downright spurious.

so is there anyone with actual experience using both
types who can testify?
does the part that comes off a machine with
microstepping control in any way differ from the part
that comes off the machine using 1/2 steps or single
steps?

plz, no theory - i get that part - does it work? and
if so how well and in what respects - just smoother?
