Hi Tom
There is a FREE schematic/simulation package you can get at
http://www.linear.com/company/software.jsp
LTSPICE/SwitcherCAD there is the actual program that Linear Technology
uses to simulate their IC's. You can use it to do just a schematic if
you want or if you're a compleatly nuts EE like me you can do
transistor level simulation. It is one of the most powerful programs
you could find even if you had to pay for something.
If you don't really want to simulate your circuit as a home builder
you might want to look at expresspcb.com. They give away some
software that works tightly with their system to make schmatics and PC
boards. It's not like the OrCAD that I use (that cost $11,000) but it
will let get you real boards. The REAL there is important because
home brew boards just aren't worth the pain of making them and at 3
boards for $51 you can't beat the price doing it yourself.
