Hi Les;
My experience has been more or less the opposite, especially on machine
tools subject to shock. LCD's do seem to be more durable on these
sorts of machines. Further almost all CRT's degrade signifcantly over
time and suffer from burn in. LCD screens however can and do have
varing types of light sources some of which are easy to replace.
Now this is not to say that LCD's are perfect as I have noticed other
failure modes with LCD's. One being the light source which is often
replacable. Another being power supplies. It is certainly a case of
different weaknesses.
